Art & Craft Social
The Art & Craft Social was a stitch n’ bitch, crafternoon, and art jam all rolled into one. HAWC provided the chairs, tables, and space, and participants brought small creative projects to work on. The event was an opportunity to bring together a cross-section of makers, crafters, artists, designers (and all those other titles creative people give themselves), to knit, sew, collage, draw, or paint while they socialize and share. Hosted by Rachael Ashe and Kim Werker.

Altered Book Workshop
with Rachael Ashe

This workshop is an introduction to examples and techniques for transforming old books into one-of-a-kind pieces of art. There is an unlimited potential for creating interesting work by altering books through cutting, folding, rolling, collage, etc. This course will demonstrate a selection of techniques and provide a starting point for creating work of your own. The goal will be to complete one finished altered book by the end of the workshop. This 90 minute class gives you everything you need to make an easy-to-maintain succulent terrarium. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring some small accents of your own (bones, rocks, shells, etc). No experience necessary — beginners welcome!
Arinn Westendorf didn’t expect to become a florist, but after three years, it’s safe to say that things have gotten kind of serious. You can find her at V & J Plant Shop on Granville Island, making good designs and bad jokes. Her other creative pursuits include portrait photography and fibre art.
