One of Andrea Hooge’s cutouts for the “I’ll Be Back… to the Future”

This piece, along with several others by Andrea Hooge, will be tiled together to fill the wall. I’m pretty excited about how it will all come together. This is gonna be pretty great – probably the best in the gallery so far. “I’ll Be Back… to the Future” opens January 11, 2013 at the HAWC Pop-Up Gallery (752 E Broadway, Vancouver).

An interview with Vancouver artist and woodworker Colin Johnson. Yes, he built a large, wooden AT-AT liquor cabinet. You may have seen it this year at the Eastside Culture Crawl in Vancouver.

We Can Be Heroes
October 12-21, 2012

“We Can Be Heroes” is a pop-culture/fan art show featuring everyone’s favourite rock star David Bowie with a twist: Bowie portrayed as a superhero! From his early days, to Ziggy Stardust, to his film appearances, Bowie already seems like a superhero… isn’t he already Starman? He’s a man that fell from the sky, he probably lived on Mars (any evidence from Curiosity rover yet?), and his wife is definitely more than human. The evidence is overwhelming!

Artists include: Andrea Hooge, Anton Van Steelandt, Chris Bentzen, Carrie McKellar, Cliff Blank, Emilia Baeza, Erin Gibbs, Irene LacCharite, Jason Gauthier, Jennifer Kleinsteuber, Joseph Taormina, Kaya Murray, Kirsty Senior, Krista Shaw, Lisa McAnulty, Lizzie Carr, Lorraine Kwan, Matt Bowen, Sarah Haddleton, and Stephen Wimbush.

FK IT DUDE
September 21-30, 2012
Featuring art inspired by the Coen brothers film “The Big Lebowski”

In 1998, Joel and Ethan Coen wrote and directed the cult classic The Big Lebowski. The film features Jeff Bridges as “The Dude” as well as John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman, David Huddleston, Julianne Moore, Tara Reid, John Turturro, Sam Elliott… and don’t forget about the Nihilists. Like the Dude, well, ya, not like him at all, but anyway, Hot Art Wet City is saying “Fuck It Dude” and opening a pop-up art gallery… and FK IT DUDE is the first show!

Opening night included prizes for best costumes (including a gift certificate from Bandidas Taqueria, a bowling package from Grandview Lanes, and a DVD copy of The Big Lebowski). “Hey, this art really ties the room together.”

Artists included: Andrea Hooge, Andrew Clark, Arinn Westendorf, Brent Clowater, Calla Power, Caprice White, Carrie McKellar, Cody Rocko, Conrad Crespin, Ellery Vandooyeweert, Erin Gibbs, Exploding Haggis, George Leon, Howard Penning, Irene LaCharite, Jackson Smith, Jeremy Couturier, Joel Rasso, Joseph Taormina, Kris G Brownlee, Krista Shaw, Kyle Tezak, Lindsay Chetek, L.J. Throstle, Lori Dean Dyment, Maria Emege, Matt Bowen, Michelle Alexis Newman, Nicolas Lypowy, Roman Hermens, Russell Alton, and Steven Kraan.
