Naked Girls Reading presents Tales of Love
Thursday April 16, 2015

Naked Girls Reading presents Tales of Love. Join your favourite naked readers as they share selections from the great declarations of love, history and literature in-the-buff with the Naked Girls.

Host Lydia DeCarllo is joined by Nicky Ninedoors, Vanity Feral, Ava Lure, and Justine Sane

Naked Girls Reading is the perfect unique live event: a monthly nude literary salon featuring readings by local burlesque luminaries, professional librarians, authors and other Naked Girls. Guests to the salon are invited to sip a drink and listen with their eyes wide open as full-frontal literature meets fine art in the intimate setting of Hot Art Wet City.

“What did you get up to last Friday night? If you answered anything other than ‘went to Naked Girls Reading,’ you lose.” NBC New York

“Great literature stripped bare” Entertainment Weekly

“It did what a great reading should.”

“After the first thrill of the initial disrobing, the pleasure of seeing beautiful women undressed fades besides the sense of intimacy achieved from someone bearing both their body and their soul at the same time. It was a remarkable experience.”

Movement in the region

MARCH 26, 2015

The year’s biggest regional issue comes face-to-face with the next theme issue of Sad Mag – Movement. Join other members of the creative community at Hot Art Wet City for a presentation on the Transportation and Transit Referendum by Paul Kreuger, transportation planner from the City of Vancouver. Get the deets, get the data, and ask him all your most challenging questions. Then, use the information to explore how cities grow, change, and move through a sketch, a painting, a haiku, an interpretive dance, photos of sad people waiting for busses, or happy people making out on busses! Relate your art back to the concept of movement and submit it to Sad Mag for inclusion online. A selection of pieces will be included in the movement issue coming out in summer 2015.

Can’t attend? That’s ok! Send your submission to by May 10 with “Transit, Transportation and Movement Submission” in the headline.

Kyle Bottom's Comedy Bucket
Kyle Bottom’s Comedy Bucket
Special guest host Katie-Ellen Humphries
with guests Kevin Banner, Dino Archie, Graham Clark,
Stefan MacNeil and Erica Sigurdson!
March 20, 2015

The sold-out March show was beard-free as Katie Ellen Humphries filled in as host for Kyle while he’s in Toronto. Comedy Bucket is the only show in town where comedians are guaranteed to talk about what’s on your mind. Everyone who attends this show will receive a slip of paper, on which they can write anything… anonymously. You don’t sign it, no one looks at it. Straight into the bucket it goes and what comes out is comedy gold… hopefully. A talented crew of jokers will attempt to perform comedic alchemy, right before your very eyes. Whatever you’re thinking about, whatever crosses your mind. Write it down and see what happens. The best comics. The best laughs. Monthly at Hot Art Wet City.

social yoga
The Social Yoga

We aren’t your everyday yoga class (though we try to do yoga everyday). We are a nomadic studio providing an alternative weekly yoga class experience. Breweries, cafes, and juice bars are places we call home and now, Hot Art Wet City is part of the family. We use yoga as a way to connect people with cool spaces, other cool people, and to connect people to themselves. 75 minutes to stretch your body (Flow Yoga style) & 45 minutes to stretch your mind. We consider it “Therapy that Makes you Sweat.” This 4-week class started March 2.

mask wizard by Mandy & Russell
Creatures of Habit
New Works from Mandy Tsung and Russell Alton
July 9-25, 2015

In “Creatures of Habit,” Mandy Tsung and Russell Alton play with the combination of their established themes, threading two worlds, finding contrast & complement amid works that highlight an individuality while relating a common identity. See photos from the show on Flickr >

Mandy Tsung’s paintings are meant to be emotive; to communicate the depths of human experience through gestures and expressions. She was born in Banff, AB, but spent her formative years in Calgary. After completing a BFA in Sculpture at The Alberta College of Art and Design in 2007, she then moved to Vancouver where she now paints full-time. She has exhibited in numerous galleries in North America, Germany, and Australia.

Russell Alton builds an imaginative universe filled with friendship, joy & magic and has it leak into & hopefully influence our own. Hailing from Smithers, BC he now scribbles, paints & prints butts in Vancouver. He has exhibited in BC & the US and his work is collected worldwide.

teen angst karaoke
Hosted by Sara Bynoe
February 26, 2015

Teen Angst Night is a juvenilia event that’s been running since 2000. If you were there for the Teenage Wasteland show at HAWC you might remember this storytelling show with karaoke. Jeff Gladstone, Cynara Gee, Kitty M, Kyle Fines, Dina Delbucchia and host Sara Bynoe share stories from their teenage years and then sing a song related to their story. Then it was an open mic for the audience to get in on the angsty teenage memories.

Art and Craft Social

Art & Craft Social
The Art & Craft Social was a stitch n’ bitch, crafternoon, and art jam all rolled into one. HAWC provided the chairs, tables, and space, and participants brought small creative projects to work on. The event was an opportunity to bring together a cross-section of makers, crafters, artists, designers (and all those other titles creative people give themselves), to knit, sew, collage, draw, or paint while they socialize and share. Hosted by Rachael Ashe and Kim Werker.
