Art & Craft Social

The Art & Craft Social was a stitch n’ bitch, crafternoon, and art jam all rolled into one. HAWC provided the chairs, tables, and space, and participants brought small creative projects to work on. The event was an opportunity to bring together a cross-section of makers, crafters, artists, designers (and all those other titles creative people give themselves), to knit, sew, collage, draw, or paint while they socialize and share. Hosted by Rachael Ashe and Kim Werker.

Plant-tastic Terrariums! with Arinn
March 4, 2014

This 90 minute class gives you everything you need to make an easy-to-maintain succulent terrarium. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring some small accents of your own (bones, rocks, shells, etc). No experience necessary — beginners welcome!

Arinn Westendorf didn’t expect to become a florist, but after three years, it’s safe to say that things have gotten kind of serious. You can find her at V & J Plant Shop on Granville Island, making good designs and bad jokes. Her other creative pursuits include portrait photography and fibre art.

Drawing Demo & Workshop with Mandy Tsung
October 19 & 20, 2013

Mandy Tsung is an artist with a unique approach to representing the human face. Now you can learn the secrets of how she captures emotion and life in her portraits with simple materials. In the demo portion for the first half of Saturday’s class, watch Mandy as she creates a portrait from start to finish while talking about her practice. In the workshop for the second half of the class on Saturday and the entire class on Sunday, you will have the opportunity to create a drawing of your own with one-on-one instruction. Specific materials and media will be covered, along with the basic technical concepts necessary for creating a finished drawing. If you’ve ever wondered how to improve on your own drawings (portrait or otherwise), then this workshop is for you. All skill levels welcome.
