Host Sara Bynoe and her guests Ian Boothby, Rachel Burns, Eric Fell, Suzy Rawsome & Dylan Rhymer share stories from their teenage years and then sing a song related to their story. Then it’s an open mic for the audience to get in on the angsty teenage memories. Teen Angst Night is a juvenilia event that Sara has been running since 2000. If you were there for the Teenage Wasteland show at HAWC you might remember this storytelling show with karaoke.

Find kitchen and home accessories, ephemera and wonderful oddities including butterfly + bug specimens, old-timey wooden crates + books, vintage craft supplies + picture frames, furniture + lighting, home brew supplies, vintage Playboy magazines, vintage Georgia Straights, and more. Get your digs spruced up after that long, dry summer or start your Christmas shopping early! Plus, Pura Vida Natural Products and jewelry from Toni Markakis.

Comedy Bucket is the only show in town where comedians are guaranteed to talk about what’s on your mind. Everyone who attends this show will receive a slip of paper, on which they can write anything… anonymously. You don’t sign it, no one looks at it. Straight into the bucket it goes and what comes out is comedy gold… hopefully. A talented crew of jokers will attempt to perform comedic alchemy, right before your very eyes. To celebrate the 400th episode of local comedy podcast Stop Podcasting Yourself, we’re hosting an art show dedicated to Canadian comedians! Art inspired by Canadian comedians and art made by Canadian comedians in honour of Graham Clark and Dave Shumka’s beloved podcast. Artists include: MW Bowen, Andrea Hooge, Erin Gibbs, Exploding Haggis, Alicia Tobin, Emmett Hall, Jacob Samuel, Brent Constantine, Jesse Daniel, Nima Gholamipour, Heather Szilagyi, Cameron MacLeod, Adam Pateman, Aaron Read, with beard paintings from Graham Clark! Featuring works from Shwa Keirstead and Mia Dungeon, Scare-city explores the realms of the “scarce” with particular reference to endangered animal species. It also looks at the notion of the “city” and the role that urban sprawl plays in impacting wild life. Plus, it’s Halloween, so it’s a little scary! See photos from the show on Flickr >

Shwa Keirstead depicts masses of mashed entities, a twisted outlook on modern life and surrealism style illustrations are his contribution to the world of art. Influenced greatly by cartoon culture, a draw to antique aged textures and traditional styles of line work. His artwork is a natural flow of his creative process and the characters/creatures show this through their expressions and tones.

Mia Dungeon‘s work explores life, death and the spaces in between, like the corners of your basement during a game of midnight hide-and-seek. The skulls and bones come from animals that died of natural causes and whose lives she honours with the utmost respect. Mia utilizes recycled materials, found objects and vintage jewelry to adorn these skulls in order to celebrate the delicate cycle of birth, death and the infinite unknown.
