Just in time for Bike Month, “Saddle Up!” is a group show featuring one-of-a-kind art on bicycle saddles. Local artists apply their work to a bike seat. Artists include Gina Mackay, Karin Vengshoel, Clem Chen, Ash Tanasiychuk, Brent Clowater, Andrea Hooge, Stephen Wimbush, Ali Bruce, Fred Chevalier, Shary Contrary, Blake Lipnicki, Alison Keenan, Jenn Brisson, Indy, Erin Gibbs, Jaymie Johnson, Brandon Cotter, Riley Cotter, and Chris Bentzen.

All saddles are $100/ea with 10% of sales donated to PEDAL. Special thanks to PEDAL (Our Community Bikes & Pedal Depot) for generously donating the saddles. A portion of sales of the saddles will be donated back to PEDAL at the end of the show.

“May LaForge Be With You” is an epic art battle between two sci-fi favourites: Star Wars and Star Trek. Like JJ Abrams directing the latest film incarnations of both series, this group art show brings together the two universes in all their glory. Spanning a universe of art styles and techniques, audiences from Tatooine to Bajor will love this show. Artists include Colin Johnson, Ali Bruce, Andrea Jonker, ARGH!!, Arlyn Bantog, Bree Smith, Brendon Lam, Ellery Vandooyeweert, Erin Gibbs, Fred Chevalier, Isabelle Pineau, Janice Blaine, Jocelyn Wong, Lisa Penz, Marina Nazarova, Marc Junker, Matt Bowen, Neal E Nolan, Norma-Jean Harvey, Patrick Wong, Robin Thompson, Sheri Alexander, Stephen Wimbush, and Vicki Lynn Rae. DOLLY
New painted works by Andrea Hooge
April 12-May 4, 2013

 
Andrea Hooge‘s doll-head portraits breathe life into inanimate objects and merging reality with fantasy. Using vibrant colours, shapes, and detailed scratchboards as a backdrop, she draws you in and encourages you to explore the connections between technique and subject. Cute yet creepy, much of the work in “Dolly” incorporates the handmade, including wood cutouts, frames, and homemade scratchboard. “Dolly” began as an experiment in painting dolls from the 50s, dolls that mimic life but are themselves lifeless. Could the same be said about the post-War modern experiment? Maybe, but we’ll leave that question for the academics. See photos of the work here >

Andrea Hooge is an artist living and working in Vancouver, BC. Often inspired by the nostalgia of vintage magazines, advertisements, and children’s books, her focus is on oil painted portraits on wood cutouts and panels, as well a scratchboards, inks and acrylics. Andrea received her BA in Psychology and Fine Arts from the University of the Fraser Valley. She regularly submits group shows at Hot Art Wet City, include CARDED! (April 6) and Hot One inch Action, as wells as other group shows in Vancouver. andreahooge.com
